"I can't decide if DeadMau5 is techno or house so I'm just going to call it Technouse. Techmouse? Techmau5...goddamnit I was hoping to never type 'mau5' in a context like that."

So there's this social experiment I want to perform (and probably will soon) where I live: I want to try on a hijab (a friend of mine gave me some cloths for the headscarves, but I need a new pull-back-hair-thing) and go where no one knows me, with a friend keeping mental record of the vents, but my memory sucks. Where I live, Islam is pretty widespread, but not very accepted (southern U.S.) and I think it'd be interesting, and eye-opening, to see how a pale white girl with a Midwestern accent in a hijab is reacted to around here.

And then I want to try the spoon analogy on said friend (while in the hijab, not sure why...), which I found out about from sqbr .

Interesting week it'll be. Also, if you think that trying on a hijab is considered anti-Islam, I've been encouraged by many of the Muslims at my school (and a few friends) to try it on. One friend actually did the same thing!

comments

I find it kind of disturbing how Darth Vader is so beloved by media, being that he is, essentially, Hitler. Obviously there's some "buts" with that parallel--Hitler had no children, and...er, that's it. They both had traumatic pasts (good Lord I am not saying that is an excuse), and they both want to kill everyone. Vader, however, is on a galactic scale, which can be positively unfathomable: that's 100,000 light-years' worth of sentient beings, dead. (A light year is 5.9 x 10¹² miles long). Hitler wanted 6 billion dead, Vader wanted 6...googolplex dead! (I'm exaggerating, btw).

And yet, he is beloved by American culture.

It's probably the voice. And how his uniform clashes so vividly with the white of the inside of the Empire (stormtroopers, walls, republic ships, Leia, etc.). He's not particularly charismatic, either...

Anyways, have some techno.

(DeadMou5 is Canadian, jsyk).

*In case anyone's curious, the speed of light is 3 x 10⁸ m/s, or specifically(ish) 2.997 x 10⁸. Or so my physics textbook said.

comments
